UC victorious at Intervarsity Sports Day

Matthew Hogan

29 March 2016: The University of Canberra has taken out the second Intervarsity Sports Day after beating the Australian National University 12-7.

Making the most of their home field advantage, 220 students represented the University of Canberra across 14 different sports and 19 games in total.

Sports at UC coordinator Jaimee Thorpe said the event was an excellent way to kick off the 2016 sporting calendar.

"The day was well spirited and it was great to have so many spectators out enjoying the sunshine, wearing blue and black to cheer on UC," she said. "The event was so well received on UC turf and to see so many people get involved in the event and embrace the rivalry between ANU and UC, it was really positive."

Ms Thorpe added that the efforts of the volunteers, umpires, participants and both universities' sports committees made the event the success that it was.

"This has set a fantastic platform and standard for the University moving forward into interstate and national competitions for the remainder of 2016," she said. "It was a great event to showcase some of the top athletes that UC has to offer and showed a lot of promise for the results that we can achieve throughout 2016."
