University Innovation Fellows

The University Innovation Fellows is a program of Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school). The program was created as part of the National Center for Engineering Pathways to Innovation (Epicenter), a five-year National Science Foundation grant.

The University Innovation Fellows program empowers students to become agents of change at their schools. The Fellows are a national community of students leading a movement to ensure that all students gain the necessary attitudes, skills and knowledge required to compete in the economy of the future. These student leaders from schools around the country create new opportunities that help their peers develop an entrepreneurial mindset, build creative confidence, seize opportunities, define problems and address global challenges.

Silicon Valley Meet Up	More than 300 Fellows and will take part in a four packed days of activities. They will spend their time learning at Google, Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school), and Microsoft, and tour several Bay Area companies and organizations. You will learn everything from how to create spaces for innovation to how to be effective leaders and supportive followers. All of the activities are focused on giving participants tools, connections and inspiration to make lasting changes back at their home institutions.
Online Training	University Innovation Fellows program leaders train candidate Fellows during an intensive 6-week period to conduct in-depth analyses of their campus ecosystems and provide them with tools and resources.

Program
Online Training	Application Deadline: May 2019 midnight ET Online Training Dates: September 2019 - October 2019
Annual Silicon Valley Meet Up	Mid March 2020 (4 days)
Sponsorship	Program Fee: UC will cover the $4,000 program fee Silicon Valley Scholarship: A scholarship of $2000 + Flights per student for the Silicon Valley meet up Other: Regional meet ups - Students wishing to also attend regional meet ups will be required to cover their own costs.
Credit	3cp - 6cps The overall innovation fellowship program at UC will run over two semesters in two phases. Phase 1: We help students build a portfolio to make their application competitive. This will be done after we short list the candidates (3cps). Phase 2: If students are selected for the innovation programme, they’ll go through the 6 weeks online training course, the annual Silicon Valley Meet Up and get involved in active participation in developing innovation resources in UC on return (3cps). *The assessment is split between two phases. If students fail to get selected for the Stanford fellowship programme. They’ll get 3cp credit. If they get selected they get 6cp credit.

Eligibility	Open to Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Landscape and Interior Design students. Minimum GPA Requirement: Distinction Must have completed at least 1 Semester of EFTS at the time of application
EOI	For your EOI you will need to upload the following documents Current Transcript of Grades (screen shot from MyUC is sufficient) Statement of Purpose (approximately 500 words) A copy of your Resume or CV
Statement of Purpose	Students will need to demonstrate they have the entrepreneurial skills required to participate in the innovation fellow’s application. In no more than 500 words, please answer the following questions Why do you want to participate in the Program? What strengths will you bring to this program? Such as Academic achievements Exceptional ability, resourcefulness and originality Potential to make a positive different to the university Evidence of ability that shows how this program would lead you to building a sustainable, "innovation and research" capacity in the university.
Interview	Candidates will be requested to attend an interview following submission of their EOI
