Ian Henderson, Where is your heart and other works

Biography:

Born in the United Kingdom, Ian Henderson studied art at Banbury, Oxford and Swansea Colleges of Art, and later, took up a teaching role at Leeds College of Art.

He travelled extensively throughout the late 70’s and early 80’s, taking up residencies (Brock University in Onatario), teaching appointments (University of Newcastle; College of Art, Brisbane) and technical positions - as a graphic designer (CSIRO, Canberra) and as a design moderator (UK Business and Technician Education Council, UK).

Eventually returning to Australia, Henderson accepted a position in 1990 at the University of New England in Armidale, as a Senior Lecturer in Visual Art & Design.  During this period Henderson also undertook a residency at the Port Arthur Historic Site and held an exhibition of works “Unexpected Journeys” at the Salamanca Gallery in Hobart in 1992.

He is an Honorary Life Member of the National Portrait Gallery (Canberra, ACT) and he continues to exhibit his paintings throughout Australia on a regular basis; recent notable exhibitions have been held at the Kensington Gallery in Adelaide ('Arrivals & Departures', 2012), Murray Bridge Regional Gallery, South Australia ('Chanteuses de Charme', 2013) and at Celtic Skye Studio, Strathalbyn, SA ('Esoterica' exhibition, 2014).

His works are held in a number of regional museums and galleries including the Burnie Regional Art Gallery, the History Trust of South Australia Migration Museum and in the City of Port Adelaide and Enfield Council.

Ian Henderson lives and works in Braidwood, NSW.

The subject artwork is from the 2013 series, 'Chanteuses de Charme', a body of work based upon the chanteuses who sang popular French songs during the occupation of Paris in the 1940s.
