Definitions
- 4.
-
In these Rules, unless the contrary intention appears:
"appropriate experience" has the same meaning as in section 4 of the Statute;
"appropriate training provider" has the same meaning as in section 4 of the Statute;
"prerequisite qualification" means:
- (a)
- an award, or status towards an award, of a tertiary institution other than the University; or
- (b)
- studies undertaken at the University or another tertiary institution, other than a course of study leading to an award of the University or other institution; or
- (c)
- studies undertaken under the guidance of an appropriate training provider; or
- (d)
- knowledge acquired from appropriate experience;
"relevant Faculty Board" has the same meaning as in section 4 of the Statute;
"Statute" means the Granting of Status Statute 1995.
Applications for status
- 5. (1)
- A student may apply to the Academic Board or the relevant Faculty Board for the grant to the student of status towards an award of the University on the basis of a prerequisite qualification.
- (2)
- An applicant under subsection (1) must produce to the Academic Board or Faculty Board to which the application is made such evidence of the prerequisite qualification on which the application is based as that Board requires.
Grant of status
- 6. (1)
-
If the Academic Board, or the relevant Faculty Board to which the application for the grant of status is made, is satisfied that the student making the application has an appropriate prerequisite qualification, the Academic Board, or the relevant Faculty Board acting in accordance with guidelines determined by the Academic Board (as the case may be), may, in its discretion, on the basis of the student having that prerequisite qualification:
- (a)
- grant to the student such status towards an award of the University as the Board sees fit; or
- (b)
- refuse to grant to the student status towards an award of the University.
- (2)
- If a student holds an award, or status towards an award, of a tertiary institution other than the University, nothing in subrule (1) requires status granted to a student under that subrule to be equivalent to the award, or to status towards an award, held by the student on the basis of which the grant of status is made.
Effect of grant of status
- 7.
- If, under these Rules, a student is granted status towards an award of the University, the student is, because of that grant, entitled to the same rights in relation to that award and the course of study leading to that award as the student would have if he or she had acquired that status otherwise than by a grant under these Rules.
