Background
The University of Canberra Act 1989 (ACT) provides that Council membership includes:
11 Constitution of Council
(1) The council consists of the following members:
(e) 1 member of the academic staff elected by members of the academic staff;
(f) 1 member of the general staff elected by members of the general staff;
(g) 1 undergraduate student elected by undergraduate students of the university;
(h) 1 postgraduate student elected by postgraduate students of the university.
Elections for staff members of Council are governed by the University of Canberra Election of Staff Members of Council Rules 2010.
Elections for student members of Council are governed by the University of Canberra Election of Student Members of Council Rules 2010.
Nominations and Elections
Student members of Council are elected for one year terms; staff for two year terms. The term normally begins on 1 January of the year of election. Nominations are normally called for in October and close in early November. This permits time for a contested election if required and the induction of new members prior to the beginning of their term.
Details of current members and their terms of office are recorded on the Council Membership webpage.
Notice of Elections
Notices will be posted on the University's Elections website.
