Inter-university Research Workshop Program

Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Inc (ACSPRI)
The University of Canberra is a member of ACSPRI, which is running an annual, two week Summer Program in Social Research Methods and Research Technology at the Australian National University and a Winter Program in capital cities outside the Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne triangle. The short courses offered aim to serve a wide variety of needs for training within academia, the public sector and industry. Program courses are generally of one week's duration and cover a wide range of topics ranging from survey design and basic data analysis to advanced analytic methods.
The University of Canberra is a member of ACSPRI and its staff and students can thus benefit for member course fees, they vary from $850 to $1,550.
ACSPRI membership also gives access to the holdings of the Australian Social Science Data Archive (ASSDA). Current holdings of the ASSDA include data files from about 500 academic and government studies, about 480 opinion poll data files, and data files released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) http://assda.anu.edu.au/

Thesis writing workshop (Semester 1, 2012)
When: Wednesdays 2 - 5pm

Presenter: Dr. Linda Li (Academic Skills Program)
This series of workshops is designed to assist research students from any discipline to gain a clear understanding of the thesis writing process and develop essential skills and strategies for writing a thesis. It also aims to provide a venue for thesis writers on campus to share their research and writing experiences, give and receive constructive feedback, and benefit from such intellectual sharing during their thesis writing process.

International student writers group (Semester 1, 2012)
This writing group meets weekly. These meetings specifically target students whose first language is not English (though everyone is welcome) and aim to help students develop clarity in writing and self editing strategies.

Using Library resources
The Library offers regular library skills workshops once for researchers as well as general Library familiarisation sessions throughout the year. For more details contact your Faculty Liason Librarian or check the Library's Information for Researchers web site.
Creating Bibliographies
UC subscribes to RefWorks and EndNote - bibliographic management tools that enable you to create databases of references which can be stored, searched, annotated and manipulated. RefWorks is available from any computer with Internet access, while EndNote must be loaded onto your own computer.

Tertiary Teaching and Learning
This unit is offered by TLC (Teaching and Learning Centre) . It is part of the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (GCTE). Research students who aim to continue working in the university sector should consider attending this unit. This unit is also required for UC teaching staff with less than two years' teaching experience in post-secondary teaching institutions.
