IntroductionCustomised English courses prepare participants for work in the international community. Read an article about a recent course. They are flexible, custom designed courses for groups of professionals such as managers, teachers, nurses, lawyers and diplomats as well as college and university students who want to enjoy Australia and learn English for studies and future careers. Programs are 4 weeks long or more and focus on all or specified language skills, to suit participants’ needs. Experienced teaching staff are able to further customise course activities to meet students needs.
Each program begins with an orientation. This is when students are introduced to their teachers and to other international students. They are also shown all the facilities of the University, as well as many attractions of Canberra city. In special English programs, English learning is interactive. Experienced teachers know how important it is to take students out of the classroom, to meet and speak with other English speakers. Activities include practical experience for example, visits to professional institutions, participation in community activities and meetings with professional counterparts in for example, Government Departments and other business organisations. Guest speakers also meet students in their classes to talk on other topics of interest. At the Graduation Ceremony, credit transfers are arranged with home Universities. Additionally, at the Graduation Ceremony, each student is presented with a Certificate of Course Completion. Students' work is assessed throughout the program. The Special English Programs are an excellent way to develop international friendships and to learn English at the same time!
