UC PREP

What is UC-PREP?

UC-PREP is specifically designed for students who have not studied for some time. The program will provide you with an entry pathway to the University of Canberra as well as giving you skills and confidence which will help you with university study. The particular skills include

  • research,
  • report and essay writing,
  • numeracy,
  • oral presentations and
  • time management.

You will also build networks that will help you once you are at university.

Could you do an effective presentation to a meeting if your boss asked you to? Research and report writing skills give you an edge in the workplace. So UC-PREP is valuable even if you're not going on to University.

Does completing UC-PREP guarantee entry to the University of Canberra?

The University does not guarantee a place to UC-PREP students, however on average, 95% of students who completed previous programs and applied for entry to the University of Canberra, gained places. An offer for entry to the University of Canberra is based only on your results in UC-PREP.

Is it possible to gain entry to other universities through UC-PREP?

UC-PREP is aimed at entry to the University of Canberra, but some UC-PREP students have gained entry to other tertiary institutions.

Where are classes held?

Classes are usually held at

  • University of Canberra, Bruce, ACT.

Sometimes classes are held at

  • Erindale College in Tuggeranong, ACT
  • Mulwaree High School in Goulburn, NSW

See the Timetable for venues at different times of the year.

Note: Please direct any enquiries to the University of Canberra College, and not to any of the above educational institutions.

How long does the Program take?

UC-PREP is offered as a Year Long or as an Intensive program.

The Year Long program is taught as one two hour session each week for 28 teaching weeks. It starts in late February and finishes in late September. There are breaks at least two breaks during this time.

The Intensive program is usually taught as a 14 week course. There are two two hour sessions each week. The program is taught three times each year.

  • The first starts in late February and finishes in early June.
  • The second starts in mid July and finishes in late October.
  • The third program is taught from early November to late January the following year

In most Intensive programs there is a two week break part way through.

See the Timetable for the exact dates and locations for the next programs.

All programs allow entry to the University of Canberra in late February or mid year entry in late July. Not all degrees are available in midyear.
When considering which program you should enrol in, think about the weekly time commitment, not only to classes but also to the follow up private study and assignments. The Year Long program allows more time between classes and so more time for assignments. The Intensive program keeps the work learned fresher in your memory and less time for assignments.

Student Equity Policy

The College has a Student Equity and Access Plan, which you are advised to read.
