Why should I consider studying for a diploma?
You should consider a Diploma from the University of Canberra College:
- If you don't meet the normal academic requirements for direct entry
to the University of Canberra.
- If you don't have strong English language skills.
- If you are concerned about coping with university study and feel you
will benefit from the smaller class sizes and additional academic
support provided at UC College.
- If you wish to fast track your studies by completing your university
preparation and the first year of your degree in one calendar year.
- If you wish to gain a diploma awarded by the University of Canberra
College as a professional qualification that is also recognised by the
University of Canberra for entry with advanced standing into their
undergraduate courses.
Contact hours
There are six contact hours a week in all
English and Mathematics units, and four to five hours a week in other
units. This is significantly more contact hours than university
studies. In addition, students may schedule individual contact time with
their tutors to review progress and discuss their learning needs.
Class sizes and teaching methods
Each unit is delivered in the university
format of large group lectures supported by small group tutorials and
workshops. Tutorials and workshops will always be in small groups usually
not more than 18 students per group. Computing units are conducted in
laboratory sessions of 16 to 18 students. Consultations with academic
staff are also scheduled, and provide students with the opportunity to
receive assistance on an individual basis.
Assessment methods
During each term you will be required to
complete a number of assessment tasks for each of your units. Possible
tasks may include essays, oral presentations, research reports, in-class
tests and group assignments. At the end of each term, you will sit for a
formal exam in most of your units.
