UC Schools
What's Happening?
Under the unique UC Schools initiative, two ACT schools will benefit from closer ties to the University of Canberra.
Formally launched in March 2011, the initiative has brought in new names and a new era for
- University of Canberra Senior Secondary College, Lake Ginninderra
(formerly Lake Ginninderra Senior Secondary College) and - University of Canberra High School, Kaleen (formerly Kaleen High School).
The partnership aims to create a relationship where the University will be embedded in the two schools and the schools will be embedded in the University.
It will raise aspirations among high school and college students and remove any psychological barriers to higher education. It will see University researchers and students working together with school and college teachers and students to mutual benefit.
It will broaden options for students, make the entrance to university and other tertiary training easier, and increase teachers’ access to professional development and research.
Staff and students are already benefiting from the close relationship with the University.
University students are working with young people at UC High School, Kaleen. Students from University of Canberra Senior Secondary College, Lake Ginninderra are taking classes at the University that count towards year 12 and towards an undergraduate degree.
Teachers are taking the opportunity to tutor in the University’s education faculty or develop their skills with further study or a PhD.
The University remains committed to working with all schools in the capital and region, and expects the UC Schools partnership to be beneficial to the entire schools system.
The initiative is a partnership between the schools, the University and the ACT Department of Education and Training.
