Unit Outlines Template

Preamble

A template for Unit Outlines can be downloaded below together with a guide on how to complete the template.

The template is designed for a standard three credit point semester-based unit. The format of the template may be tailored, where necessary, to the requirements of units offered for the full year, off-campus and/or in non-standard teaching periods.

Major Changes for 2012


5a:  Change “Addresses generic skill(s)” to “Related generic skills”

Assessment item (including exams held in the exam period)

5c:  Add the following text for year-long units only - when credit points are not counted until completion of the second unit. Leave out for other units

“Students enrolled in year-long units (consisting of a part A and part B unit code) will be allocated a continuing grade (CNTY) on completion of part A.  Once the student has completed part B, the grade for part A will be updated such that the grades for the two unit codes are the same.”

6g: Change heading “Work Integrated Learning” to “Work placements, internships, or practicums”

7:  Replace entire section with:

All students enrolled in this unit will have an opportunity to provide anonymous feedback on the unit at the end of the Semester via the Unit Satisfaction Survey (USS) which you can access by logging into MyUC via the UC homepage: http://www.canberra.edu.au/home/.   Your lecturer or tutor may also invite you to provide more detailed feedback on their teaching through an anonymous questionnaire.


Making unit outlines available to students electronically

A repository has been setup to store and make available your unit outline to students via your LearnOnline(Moodle) site. Please email your unit outline, once approved, to your faculty or discipline administration office. Your administration office will then upload the outline to a unit outline repository, it will appear in the “Unit Outline” box in LearnOnline(Moodle) – see below.

If your LearnOnline(Moodle) site does not have this Unit Outline block visible,  add the block using the “Blocks” – box (must be in Edit Site mode to see this box). Click ‘Add’, scroll down to the bottom and choose “Unit Outline”.

Historical Changes

Major Changes for 2011 (No change from Semester 1 to Semester 2)

  • Title Page: Change 2010 to 2011
  • Section 1c: Change ‘semester’ to ‘teaching period’
  • Section 5e: Change ‘should’ in first line to ‘have a responsibility to’
  • Section 8: Delete the 2010 Section 8 text and paste in the following text: “Any change to the information contained in Section 2 (Academic content), and Section 5 (Assessment) of this document, will only be made by the Unit Convener if the written agreement of Head of Discipline and a majority of students has been obtained; and if written advice of the change is then provided on the unit site in the learning management system. If this is not possible, written advice of the change must be forwarded to each student enrolled in the unit at their registered term address.  Any individual student who believes him/herself to be disadvantaged by a change is encouraged to discuss the matter with the Unit Convener.”
