Unit Evaluation Report

An evaluation report can be used to document your process of evaluation and its outcomes for a particular unit. Such an evaluation report would be suitable for inclusion in a teaching portfolio. A unit evaluation report could take a number of forms and include a number of different headings. Here are two examples.

Example 1

  • The unit/Teaching Context (this may include a statement of the beliefs about learning and teaching which have guided the development of the subject, the learning outcomes for the subject, the place of the subject in the program/degree, the subject’s relationship to others in the program/degree, the mode of delivery of the unit, a description of the assessment).
  • Purpose of the Evaluation
  • Statement of findings of previous evaluations (if available and/or findings in the literature with respect to the dimensions relevant to this evaluation).
  • Sources of information and methods of gathering the information
  • Timeline for the implementation
  • Reflections on the planning process
  • Analysis and Interpretation of the information collected across multiple sources using multiple methods (See Using student feedback questionnaires to enhance teaching for learning)
  • Recommended and follow-up actions
  • Reflections on the process and the outcomes
  • References and list of sources of evidence and location

Example 2

  • Goals as a teacher
  • Rationale for these goals
  • Reflection on progress to date in achieving these goals
  • How these goals relate to this particular subject
  • Sources and methods used to obtain information on the achievement of my goals in this subject
  • Summary and interpretation of results
  • What I have learnt from this evaluation
  • What I need to work on the next time the subject is taught
  • Ways I will continue to evaluate the achievement of my goals
