General Information

Your UC Passport to the World!

Taking part in the University of Canberra Student Exchange Program allows you to advance your academic studies while developing a greater understanding of yourself and the world in which you live.

Things to consider

  • Which host university in another country will have subjects related to your degree?
  • How will you handle the difference in culture?
  • Would you like to learn a new language?
  • Do you want a big city or small town?
  • What will the climate be like?

Study Abroad or Exchange: What's the difference?

It is possible to study in any part of the world. Currently UC has exchange partners in Europe, Asia, North America and South America. For these institutions you remain enrolled as a full time student and pay tuition at UC while overseas.

If you are unable to find an exchange program that suits your needs, you are free to research universities outside of our exchange partners. While UC has some Study Abroad partners, you are free to research your own options. In this instance you will pay tuition fees directly to your chosen university. This option is known as study abroad.  While most of the process for study abroad will be done through your host university, you will still need to fill out a study abroad application form for us to keep track of you and assist you in receiving credit at UC for your overseas studies.

Contact the Study Abroad and Exchange Office for more information.

Gaining credit towards your degree at UC

When studying overseas you must take subjects that will be credited towards your UC degree. To be granted credit towards subjects you must find subjects at your host institution that are comparable. You will need to obtain advice and receive approval from your faculty in selecting relevant units that can be credited to your UC degree. Students should research universities of interest and investigate if a preferred university offers the course and subjects required.

Don't want to study overseas for a semester or full year? Only want to go for 2 to 6 weeks?

AIM Overseas' logo

The University of Canberra has joined with AIM Overseas, an organisation specialising in short term study programs for Australian students overseas. Students can still receive credit towards their UC degree after completing a short study program abroad but dont have to leave home for a full semester or year. There are a variety of courses available including paid and unpaid internship opportunities all across the world during the Summer and Winter breaks.

If you plan to study overseas with AIM, you will need to fill out our short course application form and return it to the Study Abroad and Exchange Office.

A full list of courses and more information can be found at the AIM Overseas website.
