Intermission (Leave Of Absence) or Deferral

If, after studying for a minimum of one teaching period, you do not intend to study any units in a following teaching period, either with UC or approved external/exchange studies at another institution, you must apply for Intermission (LOA) to suspend your enrolment.

If you are a HECS-HELP liable or an Australian fee paying student you may apply for an Intermssion (LOA) for a minimum of one complete teaching period, subject to Course Convener approval. Applications must be lodged with the Student Centre before the commencement of the teaching period for which the Intermission (LOA) is being sought. You will be liable for units fees if you apply for Intermission after the census date and are enrolled in the current teaching period.

If you are a new student in a Coursework or Research degree, you cannot apply for an Intermission in the first teaching period in the new course.

If you are a coursework student who is unable to commence study you should submit a written request to the Admissions Office stating that you wish to defer your offer of place for a period of one year.

If you are a research student who is unable to commence study you should contact the Research Student Office to seek an Intermission (LOA).
