Do I need to apply for Graduation?

You need to ensure that your course completion date is correct on MyUC. To be assessed for course completion at the end of Semester 2, 2011 and graduate at the March 2012 ceremonies it should be "END-2011". To be assessed for course completion at the end of Semester 1 or Winter, 2011 and graduate at the September, 2012 ceremonies it should be "MID-2012". 

If you intend to course complete at the end of 2011 and did not set your completion date to END-2011 by the end of week 10, you must contact the Student Progress and Graduation Office immediately to request to be included in the March ceremony round.

I want to graduate with a subsumable award or from one component of a double degree, what do I do?

You need to contact the Student Progress and Graduation Office as soon as possible and indicate your intention to graduate with a subsumable award or one component of your double degree.

When will I know if I am eligible to graduate?

Students who have been identified for graduation will receive confirmation of their eligibility mid-January 2012.

What should I do if I am ineligible to graduate?

You should contact the Student Progress and Graduation Office. You may then be referred to your course convenor for further advice.

How do I RSVP for the ceremony?

Once you receive an invitation, you will be able to RSVP on MyUC. Please go to the Invitation/Response screen under My Studies. You must RSVP by 17 February, 2012. If you no longer have access to MyUC, please email the Student Progress and Graduation Office by 17 February, 2012.

Do I have to RSVP if I am not attending the ceremony and wish to graduate in absentia?

Yes, you can respond that you wish to graduate in absentia on MyUC. If you no longer have access to MyUC, please email the Student Progress and Graduation Office by 17 February.

How do I defer my graduation?

Please email the Student Progress and Graduation Office by 2 March, 2012 to request a deferment. You cannot defer on MyUC. Please note that if you opt to defer to the next round of ceremonies, these will be in September 2012.

Is there anything that will prevent me from graduating?

Yes, if you have an outstanding debt to the University.  For example:

  • Unpaid library fines.
  • Unpaid residential fees.
  • Unpaid student loan.

I have not received an invitation for the ceremony? What should I do?

You must contact the Student Progress and Graduation Office if you do not receive an invitation by the end of January 2012.

Do I need to buy tickets for my guests?

Yes, graduands must purchase guest tickets from Canberra Ticketing in person at their shopfront or over the phone. The number of guest tickets each graduand can purchase for the September ceremonies will be available on the ticket Information page. Graduands must present their ID number in order to purchase tickets. Please read the ticket information carefully.

How can I get additional guest tickets?

Additional tickets may become available. Please read the ticket information carefully.

What if I buy tickets but fail a unit and can't graduate?

You will need to organise for a refund from Canberra Ticketing.

How do I arrange my academic dress?

You will need cash on the day to hire academic dress. Please see Gown Hire & Academic Dress for more information.

What time should I arrive at Parliament House?

Graduands should arrive 1.5 hours before the commencement of the ceremony. Graduands will need to go through Security, proceed upstairs to register, collect any guest tickets that have not already been collected, and be fitted for academic dress.

How long are the ceremonies?

The duration of a ceremony depends on the number of graduands being conferred. Ceremonies tend to be 1.5 - 2 hours long.

If I request to graduate in absentia, when will I receive my testamur?

Testamurs for students who have requested to confer in absentia will be available for collection from the Student Centre for a number of days following the ceremonies. Students must present valid photo identification to collect the testamur. Students must also provide authorisation for someone to collect a testamur on their behalf. Any uncollected testamurs will then be posted to a student’s MyUC mailing address. For students with an international mailing address, the testamur will be sent by courier. Students must ensure that they correctly register a street address as their mailing address (couriers cannot deliver to PO Boxes) and a contact telephone number at that mailing address.

 

Students with a domestic mailing address will receive their testamur by registered post.
