Graduation
Graduations are very important occasions, as they mark the culmination of many years of study. The Graduation team at the University of Canberra puts a lot of effort into ensuring the graduation ceremonies run smoothly. A small team in Student Services coordinates the ceremonies, with the assistance of many people across the campus.
Invitations for Graduation are mailed out in May and October for the respective ceremonies.
Invitations for the August 4 and 5 ceremonies have now been posted. If you have not received one and you are expecting to graduate, you must contact the Student Progress & Graduation Office immediately. Delay in doing so may prevent you from graduating in August.
The ceremonies take place in the Great Hall at Parliament House, with further ceremonies facilitated as needed. Several overseas conferring of award ceremonies take place every year.
Do you intend to Graduate in mid-2009?
If you intend to graduate in mid-09, you must ensure that your course completion date is set to Mid 2009 in OSIS by the end of Week 5 (27 March). If you did not set your completion date to Mid 2009 by the deadline, you must contact the Student Progress and Graduation Office immediately to request to be included in the graduation round.
The RSVP deadline for the August ceremonies was 26 June 2009. Please email Student Progress & Graduation immediately to determine if you can still RSVP.

Subsumable and Double Degree students
Students wishing to graduate with a subsumable award or one part of a double degree need to notify the Student Progression and Graduation Office by sending an email to graduation@canberra.edu.au. You must also notify us if you have already taken out one part of a double degree and now need to take out the second part.
Cross Institutional Results
If you are relying on cross-institutional results to graduate in mid-2009, you must provide a certified copy of your official results from the external institution to the Student Centre by the 10th July 2009. Please notify the Student Centre that you are graduating.
Often, institutions are not able to issue your official results in time to meet this deadline. In this case, it is unlikely that you will be able to be included in this set of ceremonies. Therefore you will be invited to attend the next set of ceremonies scheduled for December 2009.
If you believe your external institution will be able to meet this deadline you should email graduation@canberra.edu.au to advise the Graduation Team of the arrangements as soon as possible.
Deferring Graduation
For various reasons students sometimes prefer not to graduate in their allocated round. For example a student who is invited to attend a ceremony in December but whose parents are overseas, may prefer to graduate in the following July round of ceremonies.
In this situation the student must write to the Graduation Manager stating reasons for the deferral request before the end of June 2009.
If the request is granted the student will not graduate in the original round but will be 'held over' until the following round of ceremonies and will not receive their Testamur.
