The Federal Government passed The Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Student Services and Amenities) bill 2010 in October 2011. The legislation allows universities to charge students a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) on an annual basis from 1 January 2012.
Australian universities provide a number of student support services. These may include the provision of food services, technology, sports and recreation, childcare, counselling, legal, health, advice on housing and employment, as well as independent student representation structures.
