Student Aspiration Agents
Would you like to work as a UC Student Aspirations Agent?
The University of Canberra’s Student Equity and Access Office is seeking to employ enthusiastic students for paid work as Student Aspirations Agents.
The Student Equity and Access Office provides a range of programs and services to support current and future students. These programs include the University's Harmony Program, Rural Student Support Program, Migrant & Refugee Student Support Program, Personal Adviser Scheme, Elite Athlete Program, Outstanding Scholars Program and Campus Visits and Programs.
Your Role
As an Aspirations Agent, your role will include working on our Outreach Programs to inspire high school students in years 7 through 10 from disadvantaged backgrounds to aspire to higher education; however, you may also be invited to assist with a range of our programs throughout the year.
Duties and responsibilities of a UC Aspirations Agent may include:
- assisting with our campus-based UC student equity and support programs,
- facilitating student-to-student sessions and discussion forums at a number of our target high schools,
- participating in panel discussions answering a variety of student generated questions about university life, study skills, courses and career pathways from your own experience,
- assisting with on-campus “Student for-a-day” programs which may involve: leading campus tours, working with groups of students, ensuring students are supported during their visit and performing other program-related tasks as required, and
- being a positive role model and a proud ambassador of the University of Canberra.
By working with a number of enthusiastic student Aspirations Agents, drawn from a variety of disciplines and a range of hometowns, our aim is to build networks and relationships with high school students in Canberra and the outlying region.
Ideally, a student Aspirations Agent would be able to easily identify with our target high school students, many of whom will be from rural areas or first-in-family to pursue tertiary studies. Aspirations Agents must have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and be confident in sharing their university experiences with others. Applicants should be reliable, proactive and outgoing.
