Rural Student Support Program
The Student Equity & Support Unit operates the Rural Student Support Program, which is a program for rural student commencers. The program aims to increase students’ sense of belongingness, foster a sense of community, and assist with the retention and success of rural students.
All newly commencing rural students are invited into the program which includes support prior to commencement of studies right through to completion of the first semester.
Prior to semester commencement:
- Specialised orientation session for Rural & Regional Students
- Provision of UC: Essential Information & Tip Sheet for New Rural & Regional Students
- Encouragement to complete the Smart Study Passport
- Do-It-Yourself (D.I.Y.) Canberra-informal outings led by experienced students.
Get into the “ACTION” by taking a ride on the bus. Don’t want to go it alone? Watch for organised dates and times, gather at the designated meeting place and let the adventure begin...
During Semester:
- Welcome lunch during orientation week.
- Provision of a ‘student buddy’ who has University of Canberra knowledge and experience, and is able to offer advice and support on an informal basis.
- Weekly meetings with your student buddy group for the first four weeks of semester one.
- Invitation to Faceback social coffee and conversation club.
- Access to large support network within the University community.
- Opportunity to join the Facebook “Rural Students’ Country Club”.
- Do-It-Yourself (D.I.Y.) Canberra outings based on student interest and request.
