International Student Support Service
The International Student Support Service (ISSS) provides a range of programs and services to enhance the transition, engagement, and overall student experience of the University’s international students.
ISSS is staffed by a team of qualified and experienced International Student Advisors (ISAs) who are on hand to assist you with such matters as:
General advice and referral service
If you have a problem, but don’t know what to do or who to speak to, please come in and see one of the ISAs for advice.
Student Visa and Immigration related issues
Please note that ISAs can generally provide assistance with the application for or renewal of Confirmation of Enrolments (CoE) documents. Visa-specific questions should be directed to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) on 131 881. Students can also obtain information regarding student visas from the DIAC website on: http://www.immi.gov.au/students/.
- The form required to apply for an extension of your CoE is here. Both sides of the form must be completed and signed by the course convener and presented to an ISA for approval. Students should also ensure that their OSHC cover has been extended prior to submitting the form.
Cultural adjustment and welfare:
Further to providing a range of information sessions and activities for international students during Registration Orientation Week, ISSS is often involved in the running of SEASU Workshops and activities, as well as other activities across campus.
- Further information about SEASU workshops can be found here.
- Information regarding the Academic Skills Centre’s workshops and study groups – many of which are free – on such things as exam preparation, essay writing, and oral presentations can be found here.
Academic and Administrative appeals
If you have a grievance – academic or administrative – please read the Student Grievance Resolution Policy prior to approaching an ISA.
Application for Deferral of Studies
International Students must see an ISA to have a deferral of one semester approved. A Leave of Absence form needs to be completed by the student with supporting documentation attached.
