International Student Support Service - What We Do


The International Student Support Service provides a range of programs and services to enhance the transition, engagement, and overall study experience of the University’s international students. We are staffed by a team of qualified and experienced International Student Advisors (ISAs) who are on hand to assist you with such matters as:
- General advice and referral service
- Student Visa and Immigration related issues: refer here for further information.
- Cultural adjustment and welfare activities; information session during Registration Orientation Week and throughout the semester. Note: Information regarding the Academic Skills Centre’s workshops and study groups – many of which are free – on topics like exam preparation, essay writing, and oral presentations can be found here.
- Academic and Administrative appeals:Please read the Student Grievance Resolution Policy prior to approaching an ISA. Information on other UC Policies can be found here.
- Application for Deferral of Studies: International Students must see an ISA to have a deferral of one semester approved. A Leave of Absence form needs to be completed by the student with supporting documentation attached.
- Official University Letters, including release letters: Please fill out a letter request form, available at the ISSS office or here. Students who want to change institutions should provide a copy of their new offer letter from the other institution if they require a release letter. Who needs a release letter?
- Course changes can be done by filling out the Current Student Change of Course Form - International or online. Student Support Services and Resources:
- Emergencies and Critical Incidents: Students should always dial ‘000’ for any emergencies. Critical Incidents – need to be reported to the Manager of ISSS, who will take the appropriate action. - International Student Handbook (PDF 2.7mb): The International Student Handbook provides both new and continuing international students with important information relevant to their studies and living in Canberra.
