Student Loans
I need a loan, where do I go?
Students requiring Financial Assistance are advised to approach SERVICE ONE Members Banking (SOMB) in the first instance. SERVICE ONE is located in Student Central at the south end of Building 1, concourse level. Please visit their website for more information.
If you are unable to obtain a loan through SERVICE ONE, you may wish to apply for a loan under the University of Canberra’s Student Loans Scheme.
The University of Canberra Student Loans Scheme
is administered by the Student Equity and Support Unit (SEASU).
It offers assistance to students with university/study related costs, such as accommodation, purchase of textbooks and/or materials relative to course work. Other requirements are considered on an individual basis.
The maximum loan amount is $2,000.
Loan eligibility
The applicant must:
- be currently enrolled as a full-time student at UC or UC College and have paid all applicable fees
- provide a valid study-related reason for requesting assistance to enable continuation of their studies
- provide an invoice from the third party provider (e.g. Arscott House, the Co-op Bookshop).
- have the capacity to pay the loan according to the agreed upon timeline, and
- have a Guarantor (applies to first year domestic students and all international students).
How to Apply
- Complete the student loan application form Application Form (Word 123.5kb) or Application Form (PDF 128.4kb)
- Contact the Student Equity and Access Office to schedule an interview to lodge and review your application.
- The outcome of your loan application will be determined upon the completion of the interview.
Important:
- Repayment and interest terms are the same as those required by SERVICE ONE.
- Funding of loans can only be paid to a third party (e.g. directly to the Co-Op Book Shop or accommodation provider, not directly to the student).
- Loans will not be granted for the purpose of acquiring a motor vehicle, a home loan or to pay out existing debts.
