Renting in the ACT
You can rent directly through a landlord or through a real estate agency. In all cases, you will need to view the property before you can submit an application. Most agents will advertise a specific time and day when a property is available for inspection and it is expected that you will attend at this time. In order to speed things up, some agencies are willing to send you an application form prior to the inspection so that you can have all the paperwork ready on the day of inspection.
As a guide, when applying for a property you usually will need to provide the following information:
1. Proof of identity.
2. Details of any previous tenancies you have held.
3. References from former landlords.
4. Proof of income.
Other information may also be required and you will need to check the application form carefully before submitting it to the agent.
