The HCT Research Centre focuses on technology research that assists humans in their life and learning, that supports them in their health and well-being, that enables them to perform and communicate better, that allows them to be more secure, and that empowers them to achieve their goals.

Affect (emotions, mood) is an essential, integral part of human perception and interaction. Affective Computing aims to give computers the ability to recognise affective states, to express emotions (e.g. avatar), to have "emotional intelligence" in order to make better decisions.
