The Australian Institute for Sustainable Communities believes that sustainable change is only possible when we value, harness and connect the knowledge of all stakeholders—the village member, the farmer, the local councillor, the scientific specialist. All have important perspectives.
Our processes are participatory, empowering and collaborative, which we name as organic research and collaborative development (ORCD). We are committed to growing projects from the ground-up that are watered and fed from outside as needed.
ORCD is also a hallmark of our project review and evaluation work. We have developed collaborative inquiry processes that engage multiple stakeholders in facilitated dialogues in order to clarify lessons learned and to determine possible ways forward.
Though we may begin as the external source of generative ideas for new projects, our goal is to enable local stakeholders to increasingly take the reins. Therefore all of our projects build in knowledge transfer, capacity building and mentoring.
