Inter-University Research Workshop Program

The next Inter-University Research Workshop Program will be held between 2 and 14 February 2009 (dates to be confirmed)

A list of workshops and their description will available from the registration page (http://www.canberra.edu.au/research/education-program/research-workshop-program/registration) in May. Registration to individual workshops will also be possible via this website.

Workshops are offered free of charge to research students and researchers from all institutions, but priority access will be given to students and staff from participating universities.

The program is based on a collaboration between universities. Each university  offers one or more workshop (or program support) and in return research students (and staff) can freely access the program. If places are available,  participants from institutions who have not yet contributed to the program are also welcomed, as their participation allows to broaden the scope of ideas and networking.

Most workshops are held at the University of Canberra (UC) in Bruce (ACT). Some workshops are also held at participating universities, the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Watson, the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) on Northcott Drive or the Australian National University (ANU).

The program provides a 'learning exchange' in which staff from departments and areas offer one or more workshops to the wider research community in return for opening up a range of training opportunities for their students and staff. The program increases the range of training options available to students and staff.

The workshop program brings together graduate students, academics and researchers with the aim to explore issues, enhance research skills and learn from each other. Participants have a choice of short workshops based on a single theme, using a variety of learning styles; some provide opportunities for participants to develop their own research projects, and receive peer and instructor feedback.

Contributing to your studies

The program is designed to play a part in a comprehensive program of graduate training which includes individual supervision, ongoing seminars and special research retreats.

Students attending any of the workshops can receive a attendance certificate if they wish. Requests for an attendance certificate need to be addressed to Joelle.Vandermensbrugghe@canberra.edu.au

Enrolment/Registration

Registration will only be possible from 30 May 2008 on via http://www.canberra.edu.au/research/education-program/research-workshop-program/registration.

Think carefully before enrolling. Only limited numbers of participants are accepted in each workshop. If you enrol for a workshop and then just don't turn up, someone else is missing out. To avaid this, if you have enrolled and find you cannot attend, please email Joelle.Vandermensbrugghe@canberra.edu.au as early as possible - another student may be waiting to take your place

You may enrol in a maximum of five workshops per program.  If you wish to enrol in more, you should contact Joelle Vandermensbrugghe (Joelle.Vandermensbrugghe@canberra.edu.au). You will be notified automatically by email of your acceptance, confirming details of workshop times and places.

For advice on course selection and availability, please contact the academic coordinator, Joelle Vandermensbrugghe (Joelle.Vandermensbrugghe@canberra.edu.au) and check the FAQ's.

Cost

The workshops are available at no cost to all students and staff of the ACU, ADFA, the ANU and UC. Researchers and students from other institutions are also welcome to attend if places are available.

FAQs

If I can't attend on the day of the workshop, can I have the instructor's outline and notes?

Presenters develop their materials for circulation to students attending the specific workshop. In some workshops learning goals are met through participation and peer interaction, rather than reading and lectures.

If notes are available, they will be posted on the UC Research Education Program WebCT site or on the Wiki for acces.

Are Inter-University Research Workshop Program course subjects taught at other times or in other venues?

Yes, some of the topics covered in the IRWP courses are taught in greater depth by the library, IT training, and study skills units at universities in Canberra. For example:
