New IELTS English Requirements
While the Faculty of Business and Government welcomes applications at any time, they will now have only two application and admissions rounds per year. That is , doctoral and other HDR students will only commence at the start of semester one or semester two. The application process could take 5 – 6 months.
Please note: If you are applying for a scholarship, you will need to be aware of their due dates and have your research degree application finalised with an outcome. We cannot process applications as priority; all results will be released on the dates listed below.
Intake One - Principal Dates
- Application due date: January 31
- Assessment and ranking: 8 March and 31 May 2012
- Outcomes released: May to June
- Commencement date: August
Intake Two - Principal Dates
- Application due date: July 31
- Assessment and ranking: 30 August and 8 November
- Outcomes released: November to December
- Commencement date: February
New IELTS English Requirements
As of the 01 October 2011, applicants for Business,Government and Law research courses will need to gain the following IETLS scores.

Please note: If you are using another form of English proficiency, please read current policy to make sure you satisfy the English requirement.
Because of the highly competitive situation Business, Government and Law will not normally accept students through English pathways (ie with IELTS below 7 but with a packaged offer at UCEI) into doctoral programs at all.
In exceptional circumstances, applicants will be admitted on a packaged offer if they have a realistic chance of completing their doctoral course. In such cases, the applicant needs to demonstrate an overall IELTS score of 7 as well as satisfying the minimum score for each band - 6.5 after completing the English Pathway program.
