For Employers
Employer Contribution
Employers are asked to contribute to the achievement of effective learning outcomes by:
- allocating challenging tasks and responsibilities, which are within the capability of the individual student ;
- supervising student work and providing professional advice and guidance in accordance with learning outcomes agreed at the beginning of the internship; and
- providing written feedback at the end of the internship.
Registering Interest in Program
If you believe your organisation could contribute to the professional development of a student, and you would like to register interest in having a UC intern, you can apply to be listed on our website by contacting the Course Convenor, Jim Mahoney, or by filling in the Employer Registration Form.
The information that you submit on the form will be restricted by username and password to participating PR students at the University of Canberra.
Insurance
The UC Public Liability and Personal Accident insurance generally covers students who are:
- currently enrolled
- undertaking authorised course related work experience (including this Internship Program)
- are receiving no remuneration of any kind.
Employers should be aware that their organisations might be responsible for insurance cover if any payment is made to students.
Hours
Students are required to complete 150 hours in an internship, under the supervision of an experienced professional within the public relations or communications industry. These hours can be completed in either a full-time or part-time capacity, depending on the obligations of both the employer and the students.
Agreement
Employers and students will be required to complete a written agreement at the beginning of the internship, establishing the learning outcomes, tasks and responsibilities of both parties. Information is available from UC to assist employers and students frame this agreement.
Degree Information
The Bachelor of Public Relations combines core studies in communication concepts, issues, theories and models with studies in the knowledge, skills and issues relating to the discipline of Public Relations. It is this combination of the intellectual and historical aspects of professional communication with the practical and strategic concepts of the public relations discipline that gives our students a unique skill mix.
Thank you for your interest.
