Transnational Education

Ningbo University. MBA

This is a joint program between the University of Canberra and Ningbo University. The award of Master is granted by the Council of the University of Canberra. This award is recognised in all countries and by most International organisations and businesses. It is the same qualification as the one awarded in Canberra.

Graduates will be invited to attend the graduation ceremony at Parliament House in Australia. The graduates will be awarded MBA degrees from University of Canberra. The award is recognised by US, Europe, Australia and international organisations. It is the same qualification as the one awarded in Canberra.

The MBA provides an excellent opportunity for career advancement in both the private and public sectors. Students learn a variety of business skills from areas such as Accounting, Economics, Marketing and Management.

Course

Students are required to complete 12 units. Six will be taught by academics from the University of Canberra and the other 6 will be taught by academics from Ningbo and moderated by a UC academic.

Units may change from Intake to Intake but will likely include the following 12 Units at the Graduate Level.

Structure

Each unit taught by Ningbo is taught over a three month period - generally 1 morning every two weeks from 8:30AM to 12:30PM.

Each unit taught by University of Canberra is taught intensively for one week - generally every morning from 8:30AM to 12:30PM for 5days.

Admission

To satisfy admission requirements for postgraduate award courses applicants must have recognised tertiary qualifications as well as relevant work experience. The University of Canberra will regard qualifications from approved university institutions as equivalent to Australian qualifications in accordance with the assessment of the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR). NOOSR have advised that we refer to the Chinese Universities and Colleges publication as a current listing of approved institutions and qualifications.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES FOR MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree endorsed as awarded according to the Regulations Concerning Academic Degrees in the People's Republic of China. This is assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Bachelor degree.

Applicants in this category will also be required to have at least two years relevant work experience after completing the undergraduate award to be admitted to the MBA.

English Language Requirements Documentary evidence of English proficiency must accompany the application. Applicants are required to provide evidence that they are sufficiently proficient in English to undertake their proposed course of study. Please refer to our Application for Admission form for further information.

Language Instruction

The University of Canberra has approved teaching in mixed language mode, for example Chinese or English, for students who do not meet the normal English Language Requirements. Students will be assessed part way through their course for English proficiency. The language(s) of instruction will be stated on Testamurs and academic transcripts.

Work Experience

Work experience must be in a managerial, professional, paraprofessional or clerical role. We will require references from employers to appear on official letterhead and to be signed by an official of the company or government body. These references will need to be translated and detail the position title, a description of the duties performed, length-of-service, type-of-service (full-time, part-time or casual). The originals of any references submitted must be given to our agent so that the photocopies can be signed and verified as true copies of the original.

Please note:

  1. All copies of official academic transcripts and evidence of completion or graduation must be accompanied by Notarial Certificates. These certificates will be required to show that the documents are true copies of original documents.
  2. Application for Admission form must be completed in English.
  3. Any Applications for Admission forms that are not accompanied by the required documentation to substantiate the basis for admission will not be processed.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES

2. A combination of a recognised academic qualifications and relevant work experience:

Australian Qualification Framework

Equivalent Chinese qualifications of Degree-granting institutions in or after 1981

Diploma plus 8 years of relevant work experience

Certificate of Graduation requiring:

  • two years of full time study;
  • three years of evening study; or
  • three years of correspondence study.

Advanced Diploma plus 4 years of relevant work experience

Certificate of Graduation requiring:

  • three years of full time study;
  • four years of full time study where there is no written evidence on the certificate that a Bachelor degree has been awarded. This may occur because the marks are too low or there may be an outstanding item of assessment;
  • four years of evening study;
  • five years of evening study where there is no written evidence on the certificate that a Bachelor degree has been awarded;
  • four years of correspondence study; or
  • five years of correspondence study where there is no written evidence on the certificate that a Bachelor degree has been awarded.

 

Australian Qualification Framework

 

Equivalent Chinese qualifications for Post Secondary Specialised Institutions, Vocational Universities and for Staff and Workers Universities. These could also be referred to as Junior Colleges.

Diploma plus 8 years of relevant work experience

Certificate of Graduation requiring three years of full time study.

For example, any applicant that has a Certificate of Graduation requiring two years of full time study from a degree granting institution would still require eight years of relevant work experience to gain admittance into a Graduate Certificate or a Graduate Diploma. However, if the degree required three years full time study they would only require four years of relevant work experience.

OR

3. Relevant work experience only in cases where no academic qualifications are available if the applicant has:

  • completed Year 12 or equivalent and has 10 years work experience in a managerial, professional, paraprofessional or clerical role; or
  • completed Year 10 or equivalent and has 12 years work experience in a managerial, professional, paraprofessional or clerical role; or
  • achieved a high level membership of an appropriate professional body in a field such as Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Banking, Actuarial Studies, Marketing, Law etc this may be treated as equivalent to a Bachelor's degree.


English Requirement

IELTS as the standard English test for admission

Students who have TOFEL 550 and IELTS 6.5 scores and also must complete a minimum of 6 units in English assessment will be rewarded with the same testamur as students who graduate from University of Canberra. For those students who do not pass the English test, there will be "taught in English and Chinese" written on the testamurs. Both awards are recognised by the Minister of Education.
