Scholarship Information
2008 Indigenous Access Scholarships and Enabling Commonwealth Scholarships the University of Canberra has on offer. We have been fortunate in receiving funding from the Commonwealth Government to help support Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students wishing to study at the University of Canberra.
Scholarships range from a one of payment of $4000.00 to an annual amount of up to $6,500.00 to assist students with relocation and study costs. It is possible that a single applicant could receive in excess of $10,000.00 in their first year of study.
The Ngunnawal Centre feels that the offer of support that University of Canberra can provide to Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students, both financially and academically, will enhance the motivation for further study among the community.
The University of Canberra and the Ngunnawal Centre provide ongoing support from recruitment stage to graduation, and pride ourselves in our outstanding success rates. We hope by the introduction of these scholarships, that we will be able to assist a greater majority of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students.
Would you please assist us by disseminating this information of exciting opportunity to the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander community within your area and directing them to obtain further information by emailing Ngunnawal@canberra.edu.au
Wollombi Cultural Tour
Staff and five students from the University travelled to Wollombi during October for a weekend of Culture and fun. Our Tour guides for the weekend were the Binghi Dancers, also known as Michael, David, Andrew and Jeremy. They were very knowledgable in Aboriginal History and Culture. They also performed a "Corroborree" for us on the Saturday night. It was an amazing sight to see, and we were able to learn from the story telling and the spectator participation.
