Economic students get a taste of University life

13 August 2008: Students from nine schools across the ACT and NSW have converged on the University of Canberra for a special one-day University orientation.
Head of Economics at the University of Canberra, Professor Phil Lewis said the University hosted teachers each year to present the latest information in economics and the educational issues surrounding that material.
“One of the teachers thought it might be a good idea if we presented a series of lectures to students interested in economics as well.
“The students will experience a university style lecture tailored to there studies, they will then break up into smaller groups as university students traditionally do, and engage in exercises and discussion,” he said.

The 150 students are from Merici, St Edmunds, St Clares, Daramalan and Radford College, along with Karabar High in Queanbeyan and high schools in the Goulburn, Albury and Cooma areas.
The students will also get to experience the social side of university life with lunch in one of the universities cafes and a tour of the University.
Professor Lewis said, “It is a great opportunity for these students to get a real taste of what university life and study is like”.
