New science minister visits UC

10 April 2013: Australia’s new science and research minister visited the University of Canberra yesterday.

Senator Don Farrell visited the University of Canberra-based Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre before seeing the University’s DNA labs in action.

Stephen Sarre and Anna MacDonald from the University’s Institute for Applied Ecology explained how the technology can be used to trace the presence of feral foxes in Tasmania and or detect exotic fish species.

Senator Farrell also learned about the Invasive Animals CRC’s five-year research program to 2017 concentrating on biocontrol for rabbits and carp plus toxins for feral pig control.
