23 March 2006: Every place on the podium after the men's 20km walking finals was occupied by a University of Canberra student.

Current students Nathan Deakes (gold) and Jared Tallent (bronze) were joined by Luke Adams (silver) who has also studied at the University.

Deakes successfully defended his gold medal in the event from the Manchester Commonwealth Games and hopes to have similar success in his bid to hold onto his 50km walking Commonwealth crown on Friday.

"Defending my Commonwealth titles at home in Melbourne made these Games more special to me, so to actually achieve the defence of my 20km, has been a great relief," he told the Monitor.

"It gives me a great boost of confidence towards the 50km on Friday, where I'd love to achieve a golden double again.'"

Deakes added he had been following the University's Commonwealth Games support website.

"It's great to see it working so well and so many postings. It is always nice to have some support at home."

Update: Monitor editor, Ed O'Daly spoke to Nathan before his 50km Walk. Nathan made the 50km Walk in 3hours 42minutes and 53 seconds, winning Gold and setting a new Games record. His time was nearly 16 minutes faster than the second place getter.
