21 March 2006: Winter Olympian Esther Bottomley has praised the University's Celebrating Excellence: Commonwealth Games Site.

Ms Bottomley, who competed in the cross country skiing in Turin, said messages of support were something athletes appreciated.

"I think that the web site is a great thing the Uni is doing for its students competing in the Commonwealth Games," she said.

"Receiving messages of support from friends, family and people who I didn't know was something that I really appreciated each day at the Olympics.

"It's great that the Uni can give its students an easy way to send their support to the University's athletes."

Ms Bottomley helped launch the site on 13 March (see story: University launches support website). A story about her experiences in Turin will appear in tomorrow's Monitor online.
