Regional students graduate from UC

The University of Canberra hosted its end of year graduation ceremonies this week in the Great Hall in Parliament House.

Regional students were among more than two thousand graduands to receive their testamurs during two days of ceremonies on Monday December 18 and Tuesday December 19 December.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra, Professor Roger Dean and the University's Chancellor Professor Ingrid Moses congratulated the students on their academic achievements.

Professor Dean said he was pleased that so many students from the surrounding region chose University of Canberra for their higher educational needs, adding that recently implemented initiatives for regional school leavers would go to helping support the economic and social development in the broader Australian Capital Region.

"The University of Canberra has always attracted a large number of students from the Australian Capital Region, and these students have often returned to their communities to make a significant contribution," Professor Dean said.

The university has recently implemented a Regional Bonus Points Scheme to support increased access to higher education for school leavers in regional areas. Other initiatives include new scholarship programs and partnerships with key community groups in the Australian Capital Region.

Among those professions for which the University of Canberra prepares students are information technology, management, law, accountancy, communication, community education, applied science, physiotherapy, pharmacy, dietetics, biomedical science, sports journalism, sports administration, teaching, modern languages, marketing, journalism, architecture, environmental science and nursing.  The teaching facilities for these courses offer the latest in technology including TV and radio studios, DNA laboratories and a fully functional court room (e-court).

The University of Canberra continues to receive a five star (top) ranking for getting a job in the good Universities guide and received additional funding from the Department of Education, Science and Training for excellence in learning and teaching. Approximately 10,000 students from cities and regions around Australia, as well as from some 90 other countries, are currently enrolled at the University of Canberra.
