Students come from far and wide to graduate

Over 2000 University of Canberra students will graduate at ceremonies held in the Great Hall of Parliament House next week. Local, regional and international students will join in the ceremonies that are to be held over two days from 18 to 19 December.

A cohort of eight graduating students, who have undertaken the Master TESOL at China's Harbin Normal University will travel from China to attend

the graduation ceremony. The students are the first cohort to complete the off shore degree.

Students undertaking their degrees offshore in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Hangzhou Normal University in China will also be present at the Tuesday graduations.

Among the graduates will be 14 doctorates from across the divisions.

Other students graduating include Industrial design graduate and winner of the 2006 Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards, Ashley Marsh-Croft who will graduate with First Class Honours.

First class Communication Honours student and winner of the prestigious Herbert Burton medal, Paul Collis, the University's first indigenous student to graduate with honours, will receive his conference on Wednesday at 6.30pm.

Guest speakers addressing the graduands will be Dr James Robertson, Director of Forensic Services, Australian Federal Police; Dr Tom Hatton, Director, Water for Healthy Country, Office of the Group Executive, CSIRO; Ms Kathryn Campbell, General Manager, Financial Management Group, Department of Finance an Administration; Professor Richard Broinowski; Dr Colin Adrian, CEO Canberra Institute of Technology; and Mr Jack Waterford, Editor at Large, The Canberra Times.
