Teaching excellence wins $1.7m in funding

The University of Canberra has won over $1.7M in the 2007 Learning and Teaching Performance Fund which is managed by the Department of Education, Science and Training.   The University was a winner in two out of the four discipline groups, the business, law and economics category and the health category.

The University scored very highly in the health category with most indicators well above the sector's mean position.   The University also scored well with the percentage entering full-time employment and the retention rate for undergraduates.  

There were outstanding results in the overall undergraduate students' progress rate in business, law and economics and humanities, arts and education.   Business, law and economics received the highest score in the sector for the progress rate for all undergraduate students whilst humanities, arts and education was close to the highest in Australia in the same category.

Professor Roger Dean, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra is delighted with the result.

Professor Dean believes that the strong emphasis on flexibility and links with industry have contributed to the high retention rate of students and their high employment prospects.

"This recognition for 2007 builds upon the strong results achieved in the 2006 Learning and Teaching Performance Fund and reinforces the University of Canberra's reputation for excellence in learning and teaching", Professor Dean said.
