UC welcomes Chinese lecturers in staff exchange

The University of Canberra has welcomed two lecturers from Ningbo University (NBU) in China on a staff development program.

Ms Zhang Yayue (Angela), a lecturer in Marketing, International Marketing and Management Ethics and Ms Qian Shujing (Barbara) a lecturer in Economics and International Business are currently at the University of Canberra gaining experience in teaching processes at the University and improving their English skills. As a reciprocal arrangement, two staff members from the University of Canberra will be hosted at the Ningbo University to undertake research projects and additional teaching duties as arranged.

The University of Canberra offers a joint MBA program with Ningbo University and this staff development agreement is designed specifically for lecturers who are involved in the joint program.   The University of Canberra also has the same agreement with East China University of Science & Technology (ECUST) and staff members from ECUST visited the University of Canberra in semester one, 2006.

The staff exchange provides many advantages, particularly for students as they benefit from the improved transfer of knowledge between staff members.   The program also strengthens the research and teaching profiles of both universities and furthers international collaboration between Australia and China.

Dr Jules Wills (Director, Professional Development Unit, at the University of Canberra's Division of Business, Law and Information Sciences) believes that this form of staff development really builds mutual understanding and relationships between the two universities.

"Our visitors experience a different culture and a different way of teaching and allows us the opportunity to reciprocate the wonderful hospitality we receive at Ningbo.   We enjoy having them here," Dr Wills said.

The visiting Chinese lecturers will be in Australia until September 2006.
