Children's authors to visit for Lu Rees Open Day

The Lu Rees Archives of Australian Children's Literature, at the University of Canberra, will welcome six visiting children's authors next week as part of their open day.

Well known children's authors Hazel Edwards ( There's a Hippopotamus on our Roof Eating Cake ), Jackie French ( Diary of a Wombat ), Scot Gardner ( Burning Eddy ), Maureen McCarthy ( Queen Kat, Carmel and St Jude Get A Life ), Prue Mason ( Camel Rider ), and Katie Taylor ( The Land of Bad Fantasy ) will be available to meet with guests.

Award-winning illustrator and author Bob Graham has donated some of his original artwork to the Lu Rees Archives.  This artwork will be on display, along with material from Omnibus Books Publisher, manuscripts from popular authors, overseas translations and special treasures.

Lu Rees, after whom the archives are named, began the collection of children's books and manuscripts in 1974 and in 1980 the University of Canberra library agreed to house, organise and support the collection development.
