Australian icon artist to speak at UC seminar

Artist and painter, Waratah Lahy will be guest speaker the University of Canberra's School of Creative Communication lunchtime seminar, Artists Talk next Wednesday August 16.

The lunchtime seminars cover topics from a practitioner's point of view and Waratah will discuss her work that explores elements of Australian iconic culture. Works include Beer Blokes, an ongoing work about the observation and categorisation of a seemingly vanishing era-the man on the land and all that he represents. Butterfly Wall is a series of paintings of tourist stops that focus on iconic animal elements suggestive of more optimistic moments in Australian history.

Her most recent work, Found , is a series of miniatures painted on discarded beer bottle tops.

Waratah is currently undertaking a PhD in Visual Arts at the Canberra School of Art.

The Artists Talk! series is held on Wednesday lunchtimes: 12:30-2:00pm, in Building 9, Room C25.
