New Pro Vice-Chancellor to speak on changes in Australian finance

Over the past 20 years, Australian financial institutions have changed considerably. Banks have become financial conglomerates, the regulatory system has been reconfigured and the range and sophistication of financial products has increased dramatically. Are we better off?

University of Canberra's newly appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor of Business Law and Information Science, Professor Deborah Ralston will address this question at a public lecture, next Monday, May 8.

The Professorial Public Lecture series is a new initiative to introduce newly appointed academics to the University and the wider Canberra community. It also serves as an opportunity for new academic staff to demonstrate the broad scope of his or her expertise.

Professor Ralston joined the University of Canberra in November 2005. Her previous appointments include Professor of Finance and Dean of the Faculty of Business at the University of the Sunshine Coast and Director of the Centre for Financial Institutions at the University of Southern Queensland.

She has published in a range of journals including the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of International Financial Markets Institutions and Money, the Economic Record and is a co-author of Financial Institutions Management.

Professor Ralston is currently a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Financial Services Institute of Australasia, the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, a Director of Mortgage Choice and is treasurer of the Australian Business Deans council.
