UC and UNSW enter tax studies partnership

A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between University of Canberra's Centre for Customs and Excise Studies (CCES) and University of New South Wales' Australian Taxation Studies Program (Atax) that will allow cooperation on the development and delivery of taxation, customs and excise education both nationally and internationally.

CEO of CCES, Professor David Widdowson, and Dean of UNSW Faculty of Law, Professor Leon Trakman, will formally sign the MOU on Wednesday April 5 at 10am at the National Carillon, Aspen Island, Lake Burley Griffin.

Representatives from the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Customs Service and Business ACT will also be attending.

Professor Widdowson believes the agreement with Atax recognises the synergies that exist between the two organisations.

"Unlike Australia, many customs administrations around the world form part of a broader revenue service.   The combined capabilities of the two Universities enable us to provide a total training and education solution to these organisations."

Professor Chris Evans, Director of Atax, said he is looking forward to working with CCES on areas of mutual interest.

"Both organisations enjoy enviable national and international reputations, and working together in areas of mutual interest gives both the opportunity to offer even more comprehensive tax educational, research and consultancy services to prospective national and international clients," Professor Evans said.
