UC LAUNCHES WEBSITE TO SUPPORT STUDENTS COMPETING AT COMMONWEALTH GAMES

On Monday, 13 March 2006 the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra, Professor Roger Dean will launch a website to support the students of the University of Canberra who are competing in the Commonwealth Games.

Nathan Deakes, a Commerce and Law student at the University will be assisting the Vice-Chancellor with the launch.   Nathan was the winner of a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in the 20km walk, and will be competing in the Commonwealth Games in the 20 km and 50 km walk.   Other students, competing in athletic events will be attending the launch.

Esther Bottomley, a skier who recently returned from the Winter Olympics in Turin will also be speaking.   Esther studies graphic design at the University.

The website, entitled "Celebrating Excellence - Commonwealth Games" will be accessible from the University of Canberra homepage.   There will be information on all of the students competing at the Games.   Members of the University community and the general community will also be encouraged to post messages of support on this site.
