OWLs welcome new students

Starting University is an exciting experience and next week's Orientation Week will introduce around 2,500 commencing students to the University of Canberra for the start of their university year.

A new group of OWLs (Orientation Week Leaders), who are trained student volunteers, will show the students around throughout the week as part of the Orientation program.

The official Commencement Ceremony will be held at 11.30am on Wednesday February 15 at the Boiler House Lecture Theatre (Building 14). Guest speaker will be Justin Heazlewood, Triple J's 'Bedroom Philosopher' and University of Canberra graduate with former lead singer of SuperJesus, Sarah McLeod, performing live on the concourse following the ceremony.

The program runs from Monday February 13 to Thursday February 16, and will include information sessions, free entertainment and food with music bands and barbeques just some of the treats planned. Monday's sessions will welcome students with disabilities, mature age students and those articulating from the Canberra Institute of Technology, while Wednesday will include a parents and partners welcome, the clubs and society's 'market daze' and building a Harmony Parade float for the Multicultural Festival.

Orientation is an annual event held by the University of Canberra to help familiarise new students with university life before they commence their first semester of studies in the following week. The program includes orientation for international students while the Residential Students' Orientation program is to be held the weekend before.
