13 October: University of Canberra students will have the opportunity to hear first hand how the ACT election will affect them, when ACT election candidates go head to head at a “Candid Candidates” forum this week.
University of Canberra Leadership, Innovation and Change students have planned the forum to give students an opportunity to question candidates about a range of issues that directly affect their lives.
Coordinator, Bronwyn Stuart believes this will be the only opportunity students will have to ask questions directly of candidates on issues of cost of living in the ACT, funding for higher education and the skills crisis.
“Do they have the capacity to be effective leaders?” Ms Stuart said.
“Observing how these potential politicians portray their leadership skills in a public forum will give us a good idea of how they will conduct themselves as our government representatives should they be elected,” she said.
The “Candid Candidates” forum will feature:
Brendan Smyth – Canberra Liberals
Dr Dave Peebles – Labor candidate for Ginninderra
Adina Cirson – Labor candidate for Ginninderra
Meredith Hunter – Greens candidate for Ginninderra
James Higgins – Greens candidate for Ginninderra

David McAlry – Liberal Democratic Party
