29 July: The iconic Albert Tucker painting that graced the cover of Donald Horne’s influential book The Lucky Country will make a rare public appearance on WEDNESDAY to mark the launch of the University of Canberra’s new Donald Horne Institute for Cultural Heritage.
A former Chancellor of the University of Canberra, Donald Horne was one of Australia’s most influential thinkers. The painting is owned by publishers of The Lucky Country Penguin and is on loan to the University for the launch of the institute.
Lake Ginninderra College art students will get a sneak preview of the painting and hear a talk from the University’s head of cultural heritage studies Dr James Warden before the painting goes on public display from 12.30pm to 2pm.
Myfanwy Horne, widow of Donald Horne, and Barbara Tucker, widow of Albert Tucker, will meet for the first time at the Institute’s official launch at 5pm.
