Matthew Ricketson, journalism
Dr Ricketson is a journalist and academic who has worked at The Age, The Australian and Time Australia magazine, among other publications. Unlike many journalism academics who come to the academy after finishing a career in the news media, Dr Ricketson has moved back and forth between the two in his career, which began at the local newspaper chain, Standard News, in Melbourne in 1981.
His primary research is in journalism practice, its history, future, ethics and broader role in society. He is also interested in the rise of new media technologies and its effect on journalism, how people consume media, and the relationship between news media and its audience.
Dr Ricketson can comment on: book-length journalism, social media, print media, ethical issues in journalism, narrative journalism, new media, newspapers, political journalism, radio, The Age
