ACTEW chairman and healthcare expert join UC Council
11 February 2010: The chairman of ACTEW Corporation, John Mackay, and the executive director of the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association, Prue Power, have joined the University of Canberra’s governing Council.
They attended a planning day today ahead of their first formal Council meeting TOMORROW morning.
An alumnus of the University of Canberra, Mr Mackay was awarded an honorary doctorate at the University’s December 2008 graduation ceremonies. He said he was honoured to have the opportunity to give something back to his former university.
“The education I got from the University of Canberra some 30 years ago changed my life in many ways and set the platform for my subsequent career and many of the other things that I have been able to achieve,” he said.
“It is now a great honour to contribute something back to this fabulous institution that is helping to prepare our leaders and thinkers of the future.”
Ms Power said she hoped her expertise in the health industry would enable her to make a special contribution the University of Canberra.
“I am very pleased to accept this appointment because I am honoured to contribute to such a progressive Canberra institution,” she said.
“I believe the University of Canberra is on a pathway to excellence and I would like to work with the Vice-Chancellor to support his vision.
“I would like play a part in developing the health faculty using my experience in the health industry,” Ms Power added.
Ms Power and Mr Mackay will be available for interview when the Council meeting concludes at lunchtime.
The meeting will be held in the Council Room, level D, building one, University of Canberra.
