RE:HAB comes to UC
3 July: Awards, workshops, keynote speakers, a ball and a public art and sculpture display will all be part of this year's Australia - New Zealand Student Architecture Congress.
University of Canberra architecture students are hosting the 2009 Australia - New Zealand Student Architecture Congress, RE:HAB, the first to be held in Canberra since 1989.
RE:HAB is a series of workshops and keynote speeches from over 80 acclaimed Australian and international architects and designers, including Glenn Murcutt, Chris Bosse, Nathaniel Corum, Mahmoud Saikal, Iain Maxwell and Dave Pigram. The event promotes engagement of contemporary themes, and develops a culture of discussion and mentorship.
Interventions is a public art and sculpture display at the University of Canberra, featuring a selection of provocative physical structures designed and built by University of Canberra architecture students:
Bamboo: exploring its versatility.
Shelter: a rib like design allowing for a play of light.
Hunting Grounds: seeking to explore the poetics of architectural materials and space.
Scissors and Spiders: aesthetically delicate in nature yet showing strong structural qualities.
University of Canberra architecture student, Katherine Mercer, said the congress will be a wonderful opportunity to share ideas and views on architecture and design. "The Congress is arguably the most important event for architecture students in Australia and New Zealand, and attracts attendants from around the world".
