Take a glimpse into the future at the 'Best of' exhibition
2 December 2009: A ‘ginger ninja’, a balance board to train snowboarders and wakeboarders and an inflatable wetsuit feature in a new exhibition by University of Canberra graduating design students.
- Students and the exhibition’s curator will be available for interview as they put the finishing touches to the exhibition at the Gallery of Australian Design tomorrow (Wednesday).
The inaugural ‘Best of the Best’ graduating design students exhibition will showcase the top student projects for 2009, across the five disciplines of architecture, graphic design, industrial design, interior design and landscape architecture.
"Every year our graduating students showcase their work in exhibitions at our campus. This year for the first time we are taking the best of our graduating students' work to a broader audience at the Gallery of Australian Design,” curator Anita Fitton said.
“These design graduates will literally shape how the future looks, so this is a great opportunity to explore and be inspired by their creativity,” Ms Fitton said.
The exhibition also features a safe and environmentally innovative lawnmower, a protective mask for wakeboarding and conceptual designs for artists’ residences and gallery spaces in Sydney and for a hypothetical National Museum of Nature on Acton Peninsula and Springbank Island in Canberra.
Work from University of Canberra alumni will also be on show.
The Gallery of Australian Design is a partnership between the University of Canberra, the Australian Institute of Architects, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and the National Museum of Australia.
The exhibition runs from 2 December to 26 January. The Gallery’s opening hours are 10am-4pm Wednesday through Saturday.
The exhibition will be officially opened by Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Parker on Wednesday at 6.10pm. The media are invited to attend the official opening.
