What is UCanSearch?

UCanSearch is an information discovery tool, especially useful for starting to explore a particular subject area.

Use it to find resources relevant to your UC subject or assignment topic, and either link directly to them or see how to locate them. If the full text is not immediately available online, the system will show you the easiest way to access it.

UCanSearch simplifies online searching. It allows you to search simultaneously across multiple library databases.

Use UCanSearch to:

  • Identify relevant resources
  • Search powerfully, efficiently, and flexibly across the resources you choose
  • See at a glance if a resource is Australian and/or offers full text online
  • Manage citations easily and conveniently
  • Set up ‘alerts’ to notify you of new resources in your field or topic

How does UCanSearch work?

Searching:

  • Search a number of subject-specific databases with a single search
  • Search a ‘Quick Set’ of full-text, multi-disciplinary
    databases, selected by UC librarians
  • Select your own group of databases to search
  • Search a single database in depth

Saving:

  • Save sets of your ‘favourite’ databases, to re-use for later searching
  • Save individual searches and search results, to re-use or refine as needed

Finding:

  • Locate and access articles quickly and efficiently, using ‘Find It’:
  • Link to the full text of an article, if available
  • If not, link to a range of other access options
